Scam callers – keeping yourself safe
Scam phone calls and door callers are unfortunately all too common, and we’re aware how worrying this can be. These calls and visits are usually scammers imitating a company to try and get you to share personal information or asking you to pay for services you do not need.
With winter on its way and the festive season fast approaching, we‘re already hearing that more of you are receiving scam calls from people pretending to be from Aster. Please see some top tips below for keeping yourself safe:
Scam telephone calls and what to do to keep yourself safe
If you receive a phone call that seems suspicious, or you don’t believe is genuinely from us then please do not give over any personal details. If you are unsure about anyone that calls you, please ask for their name, hang up and contact our contact centre team on 0333 400 8222. The team can let you know if the person is calling from Aster Group.
How to deal with unexpected door callers
We will always let you know in advance if we plan to visit you at home or that a contractor on our behalf will be visiting your neighbourhood. If someone calls round claiming to be from Aster Group or offering services to your property that you were not expecting you can call our contact centre team who can confirm if the visit is genuine or offer advice. You can reach us on 0333 400 8222.
We always recommend, even when you are expecting a visit, to check the caller’s identification card to check the following:
Is the photo on the card the same as the person at the door?
Is the card valid and not out of date?
Has the card been tampered with in any way?
Does the card have the right company logo?
Our teams and repairs contractors always carry formal Aster ID cards to prove who they are.
Treat every stranger with caution. If they claim to be from a different business/organisation and you are worried, call 101 immediately and ask for the police.
