A special Retreat for Burbage Primary – with a little help from Aster
At Aster, we believe that building strong communities goes beyond bricks and mortar - it’s about creating spaces where people, especially children, can thrive. That’s why we’re proud to have supported Burbage Primary School in the opening of their beautiful new wellbeing space, The Retreat.
Unveiled on Valentine’s Day, The Retreat was officially opened in a heartwarming ceremony attended by the entire school. The glass-fronted room is a bright, calming space overlooking the school’s lush playing field and flourishing vegetable garden – an ideal environment for mindfulness, emotional support and group learning.
The new room will play a key role in the school’s Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA) programme, providing a safe and peaceful space where children can take time out, connect with their feelings and build emotional resilience. It’s also spacious enough for whole-class activities like circle time, giving pupils a refreshing change of scenery from traditional classrooms.
The school’s incredible Parent Teacher Association (PTA) worked tirelessly to raise funds for this much-needed facility. To help bring the project to life, we were delighted to contribute £5,000 towards the costs. Our donation reflects our commitment to giving back to the communities where we’re building new affordable homes - in this case, right next door to the school.
“We’re delighted our donation to Burbage Primary School has supported the creation of such a valuable space for local children,” we commented. “The Retreat is a wonderful example of how we can partner with local organisations to make a meaningful impact.”
Zoe Garbutt, Principal of Burbage Primary School, expressed heartfelt thanks: “We are hugely grateful to our amazing and dedicated PTA and to Aster Housing for their part in the fundraising. The children celebrated with a special fresh fruit ‘wellness’ drink, and we raised three cheers for Burbage and its wider community!”
