Things to do in Southall

With such a diverse community, there will be things to do for the foodies, for shoppers looking for a good bargain and for those who just want to immerse themselves in the local culture, Southall is a melting pot of activities that fit everyones interests.

Shopping - For shopping, try the Broadway, this is the main shopping street that runs through the heart of Southall providing shops to purchase traditional clothes, shoes, cultural items and even street snacks - if you’re a fan of sweets, you’ll be able to see how traditional indian sweets such as jalebis - (hot fried batter soaked in syrup) are made fresh to order.

Food - If all that shopping has got you hungry, make sure you start just past the beginning of the Broadway for the best places to eat in Southall, here you’ll find rows of Indian, Pakistani, Nepali and even Indo-Chinese restaurants with smells that will make your mouth water.

Historical - Perhaps one of the most prominent buildings in the area, the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, is the largest sikh temple outside of India, which welcomes visitors. It’s a stunning building finished in marble and granite, with a gilded dome and stained glass windows. It’s well worth a visit, even from the outside to admire the building itself.

Much of Southall was developed from the 19th century, but it also has a few pockets of olden days charm. Southall Manor House isn’t far, a much-altered yet still remarkable survivor from the Elizabethan era. The manor's former grounds are now a public park and contain several ancient yew trees.

Nature and Greenery -  Southall offers numerous parks and green spaces for those looking to relax or engage in recreational activities. Southall Park, with its well-maintained gardens, play areas, and water features, provides a serene escape from the city's hustle and bustle.

Art - The Dominion Arts Education Centre has a programme of regular art activities, including gallery exhibitions and shows - reflecting the diverse cultures represented across the borough of Ealing, this a great place to understand the culture that makes Southall so unique.

Sports - Southall is an area keen on sports and the Southall Sports Centre showcases this with a sports hall, fully equipped gym, sauna, dance studio and treatment room. The perfect way to end a busy day exploring what Southall has to offer.

It’s also the home of the London Progress Table Tennis Club, who were the British Senior Premiership Champions for 10 years in a row.
