Bringing mental wellness to Haydon Court

As part of the Aster Foundations work to improve the mental wellness and social connectivity of 400,000 people by 2030, Emily Pieroux, Aster Group Restorative Practice Lead and Daran Bailey, Aster Group Wellness and Resilience Programme Lead ran some sessions for residents living at an Extra Care Scheme, Haydon Court in Newton Abbot.

Emily introduced Restorative Practice while Daran ran his popular Training Your Inner Chimp session. The aim of the sessions was to bring residents together, help them connect with each other and provide them with the tools to support communication, resilience, and their mental health.

Here’s some feedback from some of the 12 residents who attended:

“Learning and finding out that I have to accept my current situation, to treat it as a positive not a negative.”

“It made me think more about how to keep my mind more active in a positive way.”

“It was nice to open up within a group about how I feel.”

Kelly Trays, Independent Living - Team Leader said: “I just want to say a massive thank you for you taking the time to attend Haydon Court. The sessions were a great success. They really allowed the customers to think and open up about their feelings in a safe and controlled environment which going forward will be positive for those who attended.”
