Press release: have your say on the regeneration of the police station site

Aster Group is holding a public exhibition on Tuesday 15 May, from 11.30am until 8pm at the Kings Arms Pavilion, Castle Street in Christchurch for local residents to view plans to regenerate the site of the former police station and magistrates’ court.

The exhibition will give local residents and business owners the chance to have their say and give feedback on the draft proposals.

Visitors will also have the chance to ask questions to representatives of Aster, who exchanged contracts on the site earlier this year; other attendees will include planning consultants and construction partners.

The proposed scheme includes over 100 new homes for a mixture of affordable rent, shared ownership and open-market sale. Plans also include new retail space to boost the vibrancy of the Bargates shopping precinct and around 50 retirement flats.

Aster Group was selected as the preferred bidder for the site by Christchurch Borough Council, Dorset County Council, Dorset Police and the Hospital of St. Mary Magdalen Trust following a competitive tender process. The council recognised the group’s commitment to providing homes that suit the need of the local community.

Lindsey Aldington, senior development manager at Aster Group, said: “This is a landmark opportunity for Christchurch and we’re keen for as many people to get involved in shaping the plans as possible. With input from residents and business owners we can create a new area for the community to enjoy, connect Bargates to the main high street and bring much-needed new quality and affordable homes to the area.

“Community feedback can help shape our plans and we are keen to hear what local residents think. I hope many will come along to the exhibition and share their ideas with us

“This is a good site in a sustainable location. Christchurch Borough Council have been keen to redevelop this site for 15 years and we believe the plans we are putting forward will deliver many social and economic benefits.”
